About Us
orchyd is a registered charity which creates an annual holiday for physically disabled children. We aim to produce an unforgettable ten Days in August for twenty children from around the UK.
It was initially set up in 1971 when a collection of like-minded people from the Ruislip Christian Council and the charity Scope (formerly the Spastics Society) got together to organise and run a holiday for physically disabled children based in Ruislip, West London.
Although a lot has changed in the last three decades - Scope are no longer involved, CRB checks are imposed and the coach has an iPod dock - the core purpose is the same; to provide an amazing ten-day holiday for twenty physically disabled children.
orchyd became a registered charity in 1998, has a working committee which is led by Chairman John Gutteridge and a board of Trustees currently headed by Philip Pye-Beraet.
